AK's Sure Shot Surf Report

Surf Maps

Swell Direction: 270, up to DOH (Top spots in SoCal)
Swell Interval: 14 sec.
Peak Day: Saturday
Weather: Wind and Rain expected
Second Swell: 300, chest+
Peak Day: Tuesday

Another swell is on it’s way and is currently filling in. This swell will have weather with it so conditions will be questionable. Saturday looks to be the peak day with top spots maybe reaching DOH. This 270 degree swell is coming from a storm pretty close to the Cali coast so intervals will be short, 14 sec or less. A lot of west in this one so pick your spots accordingly. Looks like low tide mornings so most spots should be working.

A second swell is on it’s way for Tuesday. This one has a lot more North coming from 300 degrees. Size is estimated at chest + with a slight chance of rain for So-Cal. Next estimates are for a swell arriving around Feb 25th.

With all this rain it might be a better bet to hit the slopes. Big Bear is forecasting a few inches of new snow on Saturday. Snow levels look to be right around the 6,000 ft. mark which is great since the base of Bear is 7,140 ft. However, Bear is forecasting that the snow level should rise to over 7,000 ft come Mon – Wed which means it’ll be raining on the mountain. Keep a close eye on that if you plan on hitting it up in during the week. All roads to Bear are currently open. Mammoth’s forecast is looking a lot better. They are expecting snow all weekend. They’re estimating 1″-3″ on Saturday and 3″-12″ on Sunday. Highs for Saturday are estimated at 24 degrees F and for Sunday 17 degrees F. So the snow should be be pretty good. First ones in line Monday morning will probably score. Whatever you choose to do get out there and have fun.

Shaun White Wins Gold In Vancouver

Shaun White Gold Vancouver 2010

Big ups and huge congratulations to San Diegan and Matuse Aficionado, Shaun White. Obviously, he is the guy who just won Gold in Vancouver this past Wednesday. Shaun’s style, power and unflinching ability to perform under pressure allowed him to clinch the top spot on his first run. This enabled Shaun to use his second run as a victory lap — and highlight his repertoire of skills. Big ups to all of the competitors like Shaun who are able to deliver the goods when it matters most.

The vid clip below shows Shaun at the 2010 X-Games – just prior to the Winter Olympics. On this run he smashes his face attempting a Double McTwist.

Can't Knock The Hustle

All about grinding.

You know what this is. No rest for the wicked. None for the gifted. No need to worry about sleepin. Rolling stones gather no moss. Get your Carpe Diem on. White collar or blue collar, put your sleeves up. Idea, pens and paper. Get on it. Make it slow. Make it fast. Make it happen. Chase your passion or your pension. Zero apologies for working. Go hard. Don’t front. All love. No hate. One.

Rochelle Ballard Toasty in San Francisco

Rochelle Ballard, Artemis 4/3/2

Rochelle Ballard participated in the It’s About the Sea Life Benefit and Paddle Out in San Francisco. A Hawaiian native, Rochelle wanted the best suit available to keep her warm and comfortable in the frigid waters of San Francisco. Rochelle said her Artemis 4/3/2mm full suit was the best she ever experienced. We’re glad that she and the critters of the ocean were happy to see so many people come together for the well being of our oceans. AK's Sure Shot Surf Report

Surf Report Sheet
Swell Direction: 285, DOH (Top spots in SoCal)
Swell Interval: 18+ sec.
Secondary Swell: 195 chest high
Peak Day: Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning
Weather: Sunshine and light winds

Looks like we have a nice swell on it’s way just in time for the weekend. A high pressure system is building in over the SW so it looks like light winds along with sunshine can be expected for the weekend. With this swell the Mavericks contest has been given the green light to be run this Sat. Check www.maverickssurf.com to get updates on what’s going down. Matuse Family Member, Jamie Sterling, is in Heat #4. We’re wishing him the best of luck for the contest.

So Saturday looks like a building swell day for Southern California. Surf spots north of Point Conception will be getting the brunt of the swell maxing out at 20-25ft. Top spots in Southern California look to see DOH sets. There is a small chest high SW (195) swell in the water but it will be mostly overshadowed by the WNW in the water this weekend. This swell has a lot of west in it coming from 285 so pick your spots accordingly. Intervals will be long packing plenty of juice, so surf spots to your level. The swell should taper off the second half of Sunday and into the early part of next week. The next swell looks like it might be coming by the end of next week (Feb 19 & 20th). Have fun and be safe.
