Hagler VS Hearns Round 3

Tommy Hearns is a G but…

Straight outta Brockton, Massachusetts (though born in Jersey) Marvelous Marvin Hagler (AKA Marvin Nathaniel Hagler) is the world’s former Undisputed Middleweight boxing champ. Hagler’s record was 62-3-2 with 52 knockouts. Righty or Southpaw, the dude could bring the thunder.

Pat Millin On PDN

Pat Millin Norway

A slew of Yassine Ouhial’s photos were featured on PDN’s photo of the day. One of the shots features Matuse Family Member, Pat Millin, looking good while hacking an icy slab in his 543 Tumo. PDN is among the biggest photo magazines in North America. It’s a good look. Big ups to everyone for getting this together.

Sasquatch Stan Speaks

Sasquatch: Stan the Man
Stan the Man (aka Stanton Harbaugh aka the young kid holding it down at the Matuse HQ aka one of the anchors of the Matuse Boat Race Team aka sasquatch) recently connected with Chloe Buckley for the interview below. Good on ya, pal!

Dear Matuse Family,

I recently had the pleasure to catch up with Matuse Family Member, Chloe Buckley. As you know, she emerged victorious from the Ocean Beach stop of Surf Ride’s Freedom Surf series last Sunday. Even though the day looked more like double-up death closeouts than a surf comp, Chloe managed to come out on top in the Open Womens Division.

Me: The surf at the pier on Sunday was looking pretty mixed up, how was it trying to track down a score-able wave?
Chloe: Fortunately I only had to surf 2 heats because I won my first. The paddle out was brutal. Once you got to a certain point though you started to get sucked out, staying a little further inside kept it contestable. In the final, I got two waves right off the bat and that pretty much sealed it up. A little luck.
Me: How do you feel about the next stop on the Surf Ride series at T-Street in San Clemente?
Chloe: I’m definitely looking forward to another competition. I do a lot of them so this is really good practice. I’m always looking forward to a good competition.
Me: What else is on the horizon for your surfing career?
Chloe: I do a lot of contests like NSSA college and the local events. Next month I’m doing my first WQS event in Australia. It’s a one star event at Merewether in Newcastle. I’m going to do everything I can. No expectations but I’m just gonna give it a try and see what happens. I’m a little stressed though because I haven’t gotten it all planned out and finalized yet, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.
Me: Are you involved in any sort of cross training or do you just try to log lots of water time?
Chloe: I’ve just been surfing a lot but Dan and Justin from Fulcrum Surf have been working with me. That’s definitely been helpful.
Me: How have the suits been working?
Chloe: I have been loving my new Hoplite 4.3.2. I wear it all the time. It’s the warmest and most flexible suit I’ve had. As a girl you need that flexibility, it’s key for paddling because we don’t have the same strength and endurance.

Good luck down under Chloe! Big things are in store for you. Keep on working hard and things will no doubt come together.

Pat Millin X Ultimate Boarder Contest

Pat Millin

Matuse Family Member, Pat Millin, AKA Jean Claude Van Damme’s second cousin, was recently chosen to participate in the third annual Ultimate Boarder contest (http://www.ultimateboarder.com/). A board-sport triathlon, the Ultimate Boarder Championship is a one-week competition to find the athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. This year’s battle goes down from March 13th-20th and features riders such as Cheyne Magnusson, Christian Fletcher, Mike Morrissey and Todd Richards. With a comp loaded with talent, Pat will have to bring his A-game. But seeing as how Pat grew up as a skater, can go big on any snow jump and didn’t even start surfing until 5 years ago, we like his chances.

AK's Sure Shot Surf Report

Surf Maps

Swell Direction: 270 – 280, up to 15+ ft (Top spots in SoCal)
Swell Interval: 16 sec.
Peak Day: Sunday morning
Weather: Wind, Rain and cold air mass expected Friday night through Saturday.
Second Swell: 290, DOH (Top spots in SoCal)
Peak Day: Wed, slight chance of rain expected.

Well it looks as if we have another swell building in for the weekend. Weather is on board for this swell looking like rain is likely for Friday night through Saturday. Weather forecasters are saying possibly 3/4″ to 1.5″ could fall. This combined with a cold air mass may cause snow levels to dip to as low as 4,000 ft. Sunday looks like it’ll clear up. The swell should max out predawn Sunday but there will be plenty of size throughout Sunday. Conditions will be questionable from the rains on Saturday. You’ll have to keep your eyes on it. This swell should pack a good punch. Be careful, the large size, short interval and stormy conditions could prove hazardous. Surf at spots to your level.

The next swell is expected to arrive on Wed. There is a slight chance of rain forcasted for Tuesday night into Wednesday. This swell will be coming from a more northerly direction of 290 degrees. Estimated size at this point is top spots seeing Double Over Head (DOH). We’ll have to see how this pans out over the next few days.

The Todos Santos Big Wave Event has been given the green light for this Sunday. Event organizer Gary Linden has checked the maps and after consulting with the Surfers Representative Greg Long all systems are go. Matuse Family Member, Derek Dunfee, has been invited into the contest. You can be sure jet ski engines are being tuned, big boards are being waxed and Matuse wetsuits are being packed for the trip out to the infamous island. We expect big things from Derek as he prepares himself to make a mark at this year’s Todos Santos Big Wave Event. Good luck Derek! Kick In The Door

Like Biggie’s heavy hitting opus (http://www.pp2g.tv/va3×8YHU_.aspx), Man U notched a legendary W in the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final. The match went down on Wednesday, 26 May 1999 in Barcelona Spain. That day, the pre-MLS Becks (http://i.dailymail.co.uk) and the Red Devils squared off against Bayern Munich and their Dolph Lundgren-look-a-like keeper, Oliver Kahn. Manchester scored two last minute goals during injury time to win 2-1, after trailing for most of the match…Losing. Ain’t tryin’ to hear that.
