Matuse family member, Zach Plopper, spends a lot of time on Baja’s desolate Pacific Coast. But scoring waves is not his only mission. Zach works with Wildcoast to conserve the peninsula’s most threatened and biologically significant coastal areas; which happen to also serve up some of the best right hand point breaks in North America. Whether its the rifling tubes of Abreojos or the sweeping points of the 7 sisters, Zach is heavily involved with keeping untouched areas pristine and working with local communities to build stewardship for the local environment. You can learn about Zach’s conservation work with Wildcoast in the October ’09 Surfer Magazine. Surfer Mag senior editor, Kimball Taylor, pens an amazing feature article, Wilderness Transect, that describes Wildcoast’s altruistic land grab on the peninsula. Pick up an issue off mag stands around the world for an intriguing read starting on page 96.

Check out Joel Tudor winning the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu US Nationals held earlier this month. Joel submitted three opponents to take the title. He defeated Megaton and Rani Yahya on his way to the title. Huge wins for Joel and you can really see the excitement after each submission. Congratulations Joel for your recent accomplishment!

Since winning the US Nationals Joel received an invite to the prestigious Abu Dhabi Combat Club Competition. The ADCC competition is unique because it invites the best of the best in all grappling arts. The competition creates a single set of rules under which all art forms compete while also providing a substantial prize purse. Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Sambo and Catch Wrestling are all represented in the competition. The competition goes off this weekend in Barcelona, Spain. Best of luck Joel. We know you’ll do well.

Check out the recent article on blog.firstascent.com. The article covers a month long Arctic journey Matuse Family Member, Pat Millin, took back in April of 2009. Pat Millin was testing the TUMO with Hood 5/4/3 suit while on the trip. The freezing air temps combined with near slushy waters served as the ultimate proving ground for the new TUMO with Hood 5/4/3. Pat was stoked to be warm and moving free compared to his traveling partners. Pat said “The guys I was with were tripping out on how fast I was paddling and at how light my suit was. They couldn’t believe I could be so warm and loose.” We were glad to hear that the suit held up under such hard conditions and allowed Pat to surf when surf was available. With extreme weather conditions, harsh traveling and small windows of surf it’s a constant fight to find and surf perfect waves. To read the full article and see additional pictures CLICK HERE.
