In case you haven’t seen it Matuse Family Member, Daniel Jones, is on the cover of this month’s Surfing Magazine. This wave is super heavy, fast and doesn’t have a nice ending but Daniel navigates it with grace. Originally featured in Timmy Turner’s movie, Second Thoughts, this wave hasn’t fired like this for 9 years. A phone call from Timmy to Mikala triggered a last second mission to this secret spot. The story and images grace the pages within. So grab a copy and drink it in. Keep an eye out for, Hangs Upon Nothing, which will have this session in the film.

In case you missed it here are some images from opening night. It was a great time with really cool people. The art and photos were amazing. Many of the pieces were sold the first night which is always great. Kassia and Chris held it down as the hosts. Look for their next creative session and join in for a great time.

Hi AK,

This wave is one of Mikala’s secrets spots. He and Dan went on a trip there last year and MJ got the SURFING cover from this wave. I was on the plane to Bali when they left for that trip, so I missed ‘em. I was pissed when I saw their footage and saw what I missed. I was stoked when Mikala offered to take me to his spot this summer when the swell models looked right.

This day was HEAVY!!! We had the gnarliest dawn patrol motor bike ride. It was 1 hour of going through the forest on a motor bike. It was nuts. We crossed 3 rivers and the whole time I’m holding the boards under my arm in a day runner bag. You had to concentrate to make sure the boards didn’t get snagged on any bushes as we flew along these narrow roads. Not the easiest of rides but well worth it to say the least.

The waves were solid overhead with some 4-6 footers. It’s a river mouth with a coral bottom that ends into a sandbar. The drop is mean and the first section is so long. You can backdoor it super deep and make it. Every wave was tubing and perfect. We stayed and surfed from 10am to 6:30pm with no one but Mikala and I. It was a super long day, so fried tomatoes the next day. Until next time.
