Hi Matuse Family,

This was Monday at Hospitals in La Jolla. I got there at 7:30 am and there was no one out. It looked pretty fun so I called John Slavin to come down and take some photos. I surfed all by myself for 2 hrs. which made the session that much better. These photos make it look better than it was but as you can see there were some good ones that came through. The suit is working insane. It makes it real easy to get up and out in the water knowing I’ll be warm and loose. Happy Holidays and I’ll see you guys out in the water soon.

Congratulations to Flynn Novak for defeating Adriano de Souza in round 3 and Tom Whitaker in round 4 at the Pipeline Masters. Flynn is now into the Quarter Finals and goes up against Kelly Slater in Heat #2. This looks to be a clash of the titans as both Flynn and Kelly have been tearing through their heats.

Contest organizers are expecting a swell to fill in tonight. The contest could be finished tomorrow, Tues. Dec. 15th. Hopefully the surf will be pumping and Flynn can work his way to the finals. Matuse Family Member, Flynn Novak, took down WCT competitor Michel Bourez in round 2 today at the Pipeline Masters. This is Flynn’s second heat win after taking down Australian surfer Luke Stedman in round 1.

Even though the waves were on the decline there were still many clean barrels breaking up and down the reef. Backdoor was definitely the better of the two waves which made this heat especially difficult for the goofy footer from Hawaii. Flynn battled through by staying busy catching 13 waves during his heat. Flynn’s local knowledge proved to be the edge as he picked off the better sets during his 40 minute heat.

Keep an eye on Flynn as he heads into round 3. Flynn is a standout at Pipe and no one wants to draw him in their heat. The top WCT riders now come into the fold. Lets hope for large west sets to role through so the 6’4″ Flynn can get some stand up barrels.
