Morgan Maassen Wins Follow The Light Award

Congratulations goes out to 19 yr old Morgan Maassen for winning the “Follow The Light Award”. A huge honor for any aspiring surf photographer. Past winner includes Matuse Family Member, Todd Glaser, who currently works for Surfer Magazine and was a judge on this year’s panel. Morgan’s images have been featured on our website. He has a gift for capturing images that are dynamic from a story telling and mood capturing perspective. We look forward to seeing what lies ahead for this talented young artist. The 5 finalists consisted of Morgan Maassen, Billy Watts, Ryan Foley, Matt Lusk and Corey Wilson. Morgan took home a prize purse of $5,000 to go along with the accolades. The other 4 finalists each received $1,000.

If you missed the screening of “Down With The Ship” two weeks ago here’s your chance to see it. Among all the ASR craziness going on downtown this week you can head on over to Richard Kenvin’s loft and view some cool films you might not catch anywhere else. You’ll also be able to view some amazing surfboards and rub elbows with some of surfing’s most notable characters.

Matuse Family Member, Rob McKinley (http://robertmckinley.com/), was recently featured in an online piece for Vanity Fair Magazine called Behind the Hampton Hedges (http://www.vanityfair.com/society/features/2010/08/summer-hamptons-style-portfolio-201008?currentPage=7). The article showcases eight personalities from the NY/Hamptons/Montauk community. Obviously, among the group profiled, Rob’s looking the most ichiban. The Founder of Gold Bar in NYC, Surf Lodge in Montauk and an talented waterman/DJ to boot, Rob’s been a big Matuse supporter since the Company soft launched three jackets in September of 2006. Big ups to Mr. McKinley for his unfailing creative energy, hard work and top notch taste in suits.
