The recent South Swells we had this past weekend served up some major tacos in Mexico. All the big wave riders made quick plans and plane flights down to the Mexican Pipeline. Derek was on it. As you can see it was big.

The recent swath of South Swells has made the west coast light up with great surf. Matuse Family Member, Jamie Sterling, made his way over to Puerto Escondido to greet the massive swell. Surfline.com features Jamie’s POV Go Pro video of what it looks like to get a sick barrel at the infamous sand bar. Click the link below to view the vid. Sterls vid is #4 in the photo reel.

Check out Derek Dunfee explaining what happened and what was going through his mind during one of his worst wipeouts at Mavericks. Super heavy but as Derek explains it helped him be mentally prepared for the next day which was even bigger. Click the link below to check it out.

The East coast received a nice surprise swell mid-August from a no name swell producer. This out of season non-tropical surface low delivered a much needed 4 foot swell. East coasters everywhere went nuts and rode almost every wave to come through their local beaches. Matuse Family Member, Jeff Meyers, was no exception. Check out the full article and all the pics by clicking the link below.

Matuse Family: Chris Del Moro – Spain

CDM: Spain

Dear Matuse Family,

To say that Spain was still buzzing form their victory in the World Cup would be an understatement. Our rag tag crew of nomads descended on the Salinas Surf Festival like a happy group of hippy campers. Our guide Chuki showed us to some countryside camping and loads of great logging waves. Spain has noticeably more industry, trash and jagged coast line than France, but holds some of the happiest people on earth.

For our first 4 days of the Festival we were greeted with overhead and offshore waves, allowing us all to shake and shout. When the festival started I was able to see the true Spanish style in full effect. Surf all day, drink all day, eat at 11pm, dance at the concerts and than migrate to the out door trance parties. I had one night in me like that, than grounded back into art, surf and yoga program. Much more suitable for my pace of life.

All in all, the Salinas Festival was a huge success, we created some great group art, surfed and made friends with amigos from all across Europe and left with huge smiles on our faces. Can’t wait to return and celebrate the festivals 10th anniversary! Thank you Spain.
