Jesse Faen Charges Chile
Jesse Faen charging in Chile
Matuse Family Member, Jesse Faen, seen above charging some heavy waves in Chile right in front of his house. No one out and it’s solid 10-15ft with some bigger sets. Jesse is riding a 9’3″ if that helps with perspective. Chile gets plenty of swell and it’s definitely uncrowded. Sometimes you want at least one other person out. Jesse actually went down hard on his next wave landing on his board with his ribs. Luckily he got to shore safely and later got some X-Rays to make sure he didn’t break anything. Stressed and bruised but not broken. Jesse was stoked to know he’ll heal up pretty fast.

Matuse Family Member, Nathan Zoller, has been enjoying the consistent run of mixed swells over the past few weeks. Brandon Burdick captured some pics of Nathan having fun at one of his local breaks in the OC. Looks like some more SW swell is on the way. With a lot of west in this one most south expose spots should be fun. Nathan seen wearing the Hoplite short sleeve fullsuit.

PEOPLE OF OZ FOR THE CORAL
Isabel Lucas and her razor-free sig-oth, Angus Stone, appear in a clip for Mother Nature. On this note, word on the street is that less than 1% of Australia’s Coral Sea is under protection. Accordingly, this couple urges the people of OZ to petition their Federal Government and help create the world’s largest marine park. Music via Julia Stone’s “In the City of Lights.” This vid is one in a series of similar messages from the Protect Our Coral Sea initiative. This effort is geared towards protecting marine park in the Coral Sea. Patrick Rafter is boss, obviously.
JAY Z: RAP IS POETRY VIDEO
Jay-Z explains his overarching aim in writing the book, Decoded. Obviously, he seeks to broaden people’s perspectives about rap – and change the unwarranted biases that people have towards the genre. Jay refers to his craft was true poetry explains how Biggie and Rakim need to be viewed alongside musical poets like Bob Dylan:
“I hope readers take away from this book that rap is…it’s poetry. It’s thought-provoking and there’s thought behind it and there’s great writing in rap as well. You never hear rapper being compared for like the greatest writers of all time. You hear Bob Dylan, but so is Biggie Smalls. In a Hitchcock way some of the things that Biggie wrote — Rakim! I mean listen to some of the things he wrote. If you take those lyrics and you pull them away from the music and you put them up on the wall somewhere and someone had to look at them, they would say, ‘This is genius. This is genius work.’
So I want people to take that away, I want people to also take away the quick judgments. Listen to the song. Listen to its intent. Try to figure oout why a song like ‘Big Pimpin” can exist. The same way you try to figure out why a song like ‘Meet the Parents’ exists. I mean it’s clearly obvious that this has [a] different meaning but this on the surface is just as fun…party music. But there’s reasons behind that as well. So I really just wanted to lay this out in a clear and concise way that people can look at it and say, ‘Ok, and if there’s thought and there’s intelligence and there’s reason and logic behind it, then maybe I can deal with everything like that.”
