PAT MILLIN x OUTSIDE MAGAZINE

Pat MillinPat Millin – a.k.a. Jean Claude Van Damme’s second cousin – does the fam proud while pulling into one of Norway’s finest.

Matuse Family Member, Patrick Allen Millin scored his second appearance in Outside Magazine during the last year. This piece – written by Mr. James Nestor, photos by Yassine Ouhilal – features an up-close and personal look at Pat’s 2009 mission to Norway and Russia. Pat’s handsome mug first appears on page 17 – showing him scale a Rocky IV-esque mountain trail. On page 68, Pat is sporting the 543 Hooded Tumo as part of the opening spread. Big ups to Pat, James Nestor, Yassine Ouhilal and the peeps at Outside Magazine.

Luke Rife Stays Local

Another sweet WNW swell filled the Cali coast this past weekend and is still in the water today. While many surfers traveled to northern points or headed south to Mexi sand bars, Luke decided to stay right at home and score super fun barrels at his local beachy. Peep the water view provided by Matthew. It was just to easy scoring fun ones 2 minutes from his door step. Here’s to living in sunny SD.

Wine & Wave Bender Happy New Year

Zach Plopper: Napa

I closed out 2009 and kicked off 2010 with a bender whirlwind week of wine and waves with my girlfriend Holli and good friend Kyle Knox. Holli and I inched our way up the coast, stopping in Ventura for a C –Street surf, a night in Solvang, two nights in Santa Cruz, two nights in Napa and then a 3:30 a.m. steamroll south to make it in time to watch Los Chargers finish their regular season with a win. Up in Santa Cruz, I got a few surfs in at one of my fav waves in the world, the iconic Steamer’s Lane. My new 4’3” kept me toasty and I was stoked to see a few other Hoplites in the water.

We headed over to Napa on New Years Day after a foggy night at the Catalyst with one of my favorite bands, Santa Cruz locs, The Devil Make’s Three. Then it was straight into the “juice” as Kyle is a Sommelier with his own label and an expert palette for the world’s finest wines. Between lengthy debates over white pepper scents and noble finishes, we consumed a good quantity of Napa’s best. Somehow, the following day, we managed to hit the road pre-4 a.m. (that’s just not right) and made it to SD in time for kick-off. Now I feel a little “floaty,” perhaps in withdrawal for the red stuff, but happy to be off the road for a few days. Feliz ano nuevo everyone!
