I closed out 2009 and kicked off 2010 with a bender whirlwind week of wine and waves with my girlfriend Holli and good friend Kyle Knox. Holli and I inched our way up the coast, stopping in Ventura for a C –Street surf, a night in Solvang, two nights in Santa Cruz, two nights in Napa and then a 3:30 a.m. steamroll south to make it in time to watch Los Chargers finish their regular season with a win. Up in Santa Cruz, I got a few surfs in at one of my fav waves in the world, the iconic Steamer’s Lane. My new 4’3” kept me toasty and I was stoked to see a few other Hoplites in the water.
We headed over to Napa on New Years Day after a foggy night at the Catalyst with one of my favorite bands, Santa Cruz locs, The Devil Make’s Three. Then it was straight into the “juice” as Kyle is a Sommelier with his own label and an expert palette for the world’s finest wines. Between lengthy debates over white pepper scents and noble finishes, we consumed a good quantity of Napa’s best. Somehow, the following day, we managed to hit the road pre-4 a.m. (that’s just not right) and made it to SD in time for kick-off. Now I feel a little “floaty,” perhaps in withdrawal for the red stuff, but happy to be off the road for a few days. Feliz ano nuevo everyone!
