Vivid LIVE got things going last Friday evening with the usual “lighting of the sails.” Handiwork this time around by French animation maestros, Superbien. Peep the time lapse. Music courtesy of The Crystal Ark’s “The City Never Sleeps”.

Matuse Family Members, Mikala Jones and Derek Dunfee, were down in Puerto Escondido during the last couple south swells. Although swell and weather models looked prime for some perfect waves there wasn’t a whole lot to go around. IronFistMedia captured a couple of waves of Mikala and Derek in this short video.

Matuse Family Member, Todd Glaser, recently featured 10 of his favorite shots on Surfermag.com. 2 of the 10 shots featured Matuse Family Members, Chris Del Moro and Derek Dunfee. Above Chris sits as he looks upon a prefect right point. Todd explains that they had to hike miles, swim across rivers and hike some more before finding this empty point break. Below that Derek making a heavy drop at Mavericks the day before he paddled into the largest wave of the winter and won the XXL paddle in award. The shot is from Todd’s first day ever shooting out at Mavericks. What he doesn’t tell you is that he was in the water all day and didn’t get out there via boat or jet ski. Talk about dedicated and hardcore. To see all of Todd’s image selections visit the link below:

Dear Matuse Family,
Just got back from diving with Oceanics in the Bahamas – it was rad! I was with Andy Samberg from SNL. Obviously a hysterical guy. As always, I’ve been on the move doing work for Shark Week. I had the Phantom Gold with me – a Super Digital Slow Motion Camera – it was UN-F*CKING-REAL! Everything looks good on that cam: Tigers, Lemons, Reefs, Nurse, Hammerheads – and even the bubbles looked unbelievable. My Matuse Hoplite suit was PERFECT! Next, I’m off to Cape Town. When I get there, it will be ON!!!
Thanks for everything and talk soon,
ABC4
