Check out the recent article of Matuse Family Member Derek Dunfee on Surfline.com. Derek was nominated for the Billabong XXL Monster Paddle Award this year. In this interview Derek talks about the wave, events leading up to that moment and what his expectations are.

Derek will find out tomorrow evening, Friday, April 17th, in Anaheim, if he is the winner for paddling into the largest wave of 2008. If he wins his name will be among many of his heroes and he will pocket a cool $15,000 to help him celebrate. We wish him all the best and hopefully you’ll see a sweet victory story on our Blog in a couple of days. Even if he doesn’t win the award we’re super proud of Derek’s accomplishment and we know he’ll be onto bigger and better waves as he continues to improve his wave riding prowess.
