Matuse Family: Zach Plopper – Europe

Dear Matuse Family,
It’s been a classic whirlwind experience in the old world thus far. I spent a few nights in Ericiera, Portugal, gorging on fish, vino verde and surfing some empty Portuguese beachies. I transected the Iberian Peninsula in a day straight to San Sebastian (Donostia as it is called in the native tongue) to begin the trickle down the coast. From here it is only a short skip to Southern France. I did a full beach day in Hossegor…stumbled upon a little bank that turned into a magic mini-left point as the tide filled in. It went from just me to several SUPs (the pandemic has gone global!), a surf school and some topless bathers – typical cote basque experience. I just finished a heaping menu Del Dia (lunch in Spain) that involved a delicious mixed salad, steak with roasted red peppers, french fries and one of the tastiest desserts I have ever had. This was followed by my daily afternoon dose of espresso. Oh yeah, and to moisten the palette, two bottles of local white wine. Needless to say I am a little groggy and tired and too lazy to upload all my photos right now but I promise to do so soon and show you what I am talking about. I’m off to Zurriola (fun little urban beachbreak in San Sebastian) for a surf and a nap. Many more stories to come so stay tuned!
