Matuse Family: Pat Millin On Tavarua

Dear Matuse Familia,

Been back stateside from Tavarua for a couple of weeks recovering from a minor staph infection and letting my battle wounds dry out and heal. Safe to say I think I found my heaven on earth. The little island of Tavarua is pretty much a dream set up. I keep telling my friends that it’s something that you would doodle when you’re in high school day dreaming. The island is in the shape of a heart and has a perfect left and right rapping around the island. Then there’s CloudBreak which is in a world of it’s own.

When surfing CloudBreak I got this feeling that I was Kevin Costner in Waterworld and that I always had my eyes peeled for Dennis Hopper and the smoker jet ski gang. CloudBreak should be considered as one of the wonders of the world. Trip was crazy!!!

It started with some fun waves and then a category 4 cyclone came marching through Fiji forcing everyone to evacuate the island. After being pool side for three days, while the massive storm passed, we were ready to get back to the island and get our surf on. Waves were pumping for the final few days accompanied with great weather. Here’s a few images from those days getting my Vandamage on out a Cloudbreak. Enjoy and see you around the bend.
