NOT TOO LATE SEASON: PART 2

G Land is is no secret, but still is so Mental. Located in a national park in the jungle on Java, it is surrounded by radical wildlife and a giant reef with perfect heavy lefts. You can step out of your cush little hut, walk through a pack of monkeys, past a six foot monitor lizard, cruise under a big tucan, step over a tree snake, to get to the giant reef covered in all kinds of marine life. In the line up there are whales and sharks and those sea cow Dugong animals that pass by. The reef is so long you can have your own section and can get as nutz as you want in long, shallow, hollow pits.

One full moon low tide sunset I paddled out into pumping 6 to 8 foot drainers and ended up staying out until well after dark. I don’t wear booties and it was dead low when I came in on my last wave. I ended up getting stuck on the urchin covered, sharp coral reef, and spent well over an hour inching my way in avoiding mini Giant Clams, Eels and ended up on the beach with purple poke-a-doted feet from the unavoidable urchin colonies. It was well worth it.

Local transport. The roads washed out at one point. 6-8 foot perfection. A local gathering dinner half way across the giant reef. Clams and urchins are just a few of the hazards covering the reef.
