Congratulations to Johnny for getting nominated in this year’s Billabong XXL awards! Johnny has dedicated himself to charging massive waves and his efforts are bearing fruit. The wave shown on the XXL website shows Johnny Monster Paddling Into a massive Puerto Escondido bomb. Johnny “Monster” Maher has been a Matuse family member since 2006. He has teamed up with another Matuse family member Derek Dunfee as his tow partner. Johnny and Derek are dedicated to training and chasing the largest swells throughout each season. Johnny has spent a lot of time in Puerto Escondido, Tavarua’s Cloudbreak where he is a boatman, Todos Santos, Oregon, Northern California and Hawaii. We know that Johnny’s talent and drive will allow him to achieve his goals. We expect big things from him this year.
