Another photo from Todd Glaser’s archives of Matuse Family Member, Derek Dunfee, pulling into another Puerto man sized shack. Derek loves big powerful waves and it’s why he spends most of his summers in Puerto. Derek in a familiar place on a familiar sand bar with Glaser in the perfect spot to capture it all.

Straight outta Pete Tucker’s Ranch, Joel Tudor and the Matuse Family break bread with a clique of Navy Seals. People getting together, all cleaned up for supper and taking down some beverages. A beautiful thing. One.

Dear Matuse Family,

It’s not rare for you to find me in these parts around this time of year. As usual I’ve been blessed with torrential rains, then sunny sky’s, warm waters, magical times around every corner and yes good waves. This time something’s different. The waves are not just good, they’re great! The sand at most of the point breaks are the best quality my eyes have seen in the last decade. We’ve been ping ponging around sand dredging points since my arrival and mixing it in with good energetic works on the earth.

The catalyst for getting me over here was the first screening of Surfers for Cetaceans documentary film “Minds in The Water” at the Byron Bay community center. The night seems dreamy in the memory bank. Hundreds of amazing people came to share the night filled with visual stimuli, music and veggie grinds. From what we understand it’s the largest numbers the theatre has ever drawn with over a hundred people turned away.

The day leading into the premier was energetically high. The film crew was head down in organizing mode while Dave and I soothed the nerves by playing in the sea. After a day full of tube riding we slid in amongst the large numbers and all enjoyed the first viewing of a project that’s taken over 5 years to finish. The feed back to the film was very positive and we are hoping to have it show this summer along the Californian coast as well as in Europe for the IWC. It’s always funny to see your big hairy mug blabbing away but overall the film has evolved into a stimulating and beautiful project that will be a great educational tool for many. Dublin’s Trinity Orchestra recently paid tribute to the French outfit, Daft Punk. Note: watch this clip from beginning to end. However, you can fast-forward the first minute of tuning if so desire. Big ups to a good, old-fashioned homage.
