Aaron Chang Special Eco Square Offering

Matuse Family Member, Aaron Chang, has been working on offering a group of images, called “Eco Squares”, to the public for an unprecedented price. The prints go on sale this Friday, July 26th. A limited number have been printed so they’ll probably sell out fast. This is Aaron’s way of saying thank you to everyone.

Here’s a small sample of some of the images Aaron Chang will be offering along with some back story direct from Aaron Chang.

1. One of the daily thrills in a surfing life is the first look at the surf. For most surfer’s, the view from the glider port above Black’s beach in San Diego provides more consistent surf stoke than any other Southern California break.

2. The allure of a perfect curl of a powerful wave breaking on the reef at Sunset draws surfers like a moth to flame. These fleeting moments of water in motion are like snowflakes in that no two are exactly the same.

3. This lone surfer makes the long walk across the sand at Waimea Bay to face the large waves. Surfing big waves is in part a mental game; The psych before the paddle a critical part in creating a successful session.

4. The reaching shadows of the palm trees stretch across the sand at Ke’Iki beach on the north shore of Oahu; one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii. In this photo it is as if the trees are leading you to the ocean.

5. There is nothing like Pipeline when the sets stack up 4 deep on the reef. This day was perhaps the best I have seen in over 2 decades of watching Pipe break. The photo captures the perfection of a perfect ride at the world famous Banzai Pipeline.

6. When you are riding in the barrel it can feel like flying. What I love about this photo is the seagull swooping down for a view of the tube. Shot on the island of Natividad off the coast of Baja, California, this photo captures the essence of surfing.

7. As surfers we are so focused on the motion and energy of the waves that sometimes, in their absence, we feel lost. However, the beauty of still water is undeniable at places like Waimea Bay on the north shore. To think that the water can go from this stillness to churning pitching 10′ shore break in an matter of hours still amazes me.

8. Being commissioned by Bruce Brown to shoot a poster shot for the sequel to Endless Summer, Endless Summer II, was a special project for me given that it was the Endless Summer that planted the inspiration for my life’s journey. This shot was done at Rock Piles on the north shore of Oahu during the filming with Wingnut and Pat O’Connell. The photo was used as the basis for the poster.
