A Weekend at Todos

Last weekend I had the pleasure of joining Save the Waves (STW) on a trip out to Todos Santos Island off the coast of Ensenada. Although it is home to the infamous Killers, one of the world’s top big wave spots, there was nothing of the sort on our visit except for a dozen curious seals, a pissed-off dog and a very rocky A-frame peak. STW’s Dean LaTourette and Josh Berry and I got a couple of sketchy rights while former WiLDCOAST employee/STW Conservation Director/UCSB grad student Katie Westfall snapped a few pics.

The island and its waves are proposed to be included in the Bahia Todos Santos World Surfing Reserve which will also include Salsipuedes and San Miguel. Joining the likes of Malibu, Santa Cruz, Ericeira, Portugal and Manly Beach, Australia; the Bahia Todos Santos World Surfing Reserve will be a major step forward in the preservation of the region’s waves and coastline.
