Matuse Family Member, Kai Otton, seen sportin’ the Hoplite 2mm fullsuit at the ASP Trestles contest. Kai has been injured and is now back to make a statement. Look for Kai’s heat in round 2 against fellow Australian Luke Stedman. Click the link below to check out how the surf was on Monday. Even though it was super clean and rippable the inconsistent sets prompted the contest directors to call it off. A new swell is on it’s way and looks to be setting the contest up for some really good surf.

Congratulations to Matuse Family Member, Harley Taich, for placing 2nd (girls under 16) at event #1 of the Surfing America contest held at DMJ’s in Oceanside, CA. This contest is a great backup to her finals showing at the Nike 6.0 USA Championships last June at Lowers, Trestles. Harley was the only West Coast girl to represent in the finals which consisted of 2 Hawaiians and 2 Mainlanders.

Kids, don’t play with fire – unless Spike Jonze asks you to skate in a film.

Big ups to Spike Jonze and Ty Evans. Obviously, they are the same guys behind Girl Skateboards’ Yeah Right and Lakai’s Fully Flared. Recently, they released a new short that once again captures Lakai’s Skate Team. Their new effort also pushes the envelope of Art + Function (and shooting without safety goggles). For posterity’s sake, see below their work that was incorporated into Unkle’s “Heaven” clip.

1st Annual Good Vibration Surf & Music Day

Dear Matuse Family,

It was a big turn out in Canngu over the weekend. With the concept paying respect to boards from 1981-82′ meant no thrusters. People showed up in there 80’s fashion and enjoyed the free flowing tiger beer all day. By the finals everyone agreed to can the twin-fins and ride only single-fins with no leashes. Asher Pacey from OZ was ripping it up and ended up winning a brand new Deus single-fin. Big Congrats!

The awards were held at the grand opening of “Deus the Temple of Enthusiasm” down the road. Free flowing Mojitos ran like a river all night.

Big shout out to Tipi, Jake, Ty, Dustin and at least ten more other people that made this event happen. Big ups to the sponsors, DRIFTER, RAW, RYTHM, DEUS, MATUSE, ISC, CSC, TIGER BEER, AND LINES MAG.
