Matuse Family: Mike Millin

Dear Matuse Family,

2010! What a year! I spent the earlier part of it in Indo, went home to California for the summer and hit the road again in October. Things started off in Japan hoping to score some Typhoon swell…and I did! Only to tweak my wrist while surfing some beachys on the outskirts of Tokyo. When I first got to Japan the water was still fairly warm so I was wearing my Matuse Sort-Sleeve Full 2mm, my personal favorite. After a short period of time I was having to wear my Hoplite 4/3/2 Fullsuit because of dropping water temperatures. Its amazing that within a couple of weeks in Japan the water can go from comfortable to FRIGID!! Make sure you have a good suit if you go!!

After Japan, I headed back down to Bali to get some late season juice…grateful that my wrist healed after only a few weeks. As soon as I got to Bali I got invited by a friend to a location I’m not allowed to speak of….there were a few of us on the trip and we all made a pact not to broadcast where it is….lets just say its in the Pacific and it’s Indonesia. We were there for two weeks…and we didn’t see another surfer, let alone another westerner the whole time. Coolest experience of my life….Oh yea and there were some pretty good set-ups too.

Since that trip I’ve been back on Bali getting much better waves then expected for this time of year..Dec-Jan are supposed to be the slow months for waves here and I’ve been surfing my brains out…even went to bed early on New Year’s Eve to get up at dawn the next day…that’ll give you an ideal of what the quality of the waves has been like. My Philo 1mm has kept me loose and warm while keeping the sun off my back in Bali. Its been nice getting to know a few different suits offered by Matuse while on this mission. I’m headed to West Australia next. What will 2011 bring? What suit will I use next!

Happy New Year -Mike Millin
