Matuse Family: Johnny Maher In Indo

NOT TOO LATE SEASON: PART 1
Stoked I just had the opportunity to spend six weeks tripping Indonesia. After watching consistent Indian Ocean activity, and predicting the storm track would continue it’s momentum through the late season, I booked a flight and took off the next day. Between perfect lefts, sweating out a serious bout of Dengue Fever, and surfing through the transition from dry to wet season, I got to experience a variety of Indos gifts during this trip.
It’s always a good feeling to reap the rewards of a lucky gamble at a fickle spot next door. Never a big wave, but if you like long barrels it’s a world class drainer. This was one left of many this day. I have never seen anyone work so much in such a hot environment as the resident grandfather. He must have seen some good ones in his day considering this wave is his front yard. The setup was perfect. What more can you ask for when you have a fresh water well, chickens, a place to sleep, and good waves?
