A recent email received from Johnny “Monster” Maher.

Dear Matuse Famliy,

I just spent a month in Tahoe and Mammoth with a chick who rips at snowboarding. It felt really good to breath fresh mountain air and carve fresh tracks. Another dynamic in riding nature’s gifts. I love snowboarding but I don’t get to hit the mountain as often as I’d like to. But I do make the most of it when I do.

I did take one quick trip down the mountain to Mavericks for a swell and I attempted to surf an empty underground slab in Northern Cali sharkville that punished me across the entire reef. The wipe out was so violent it ripped off all my fins. I was told I would be hunted and killed if I shared my photos from the slab so I’m going to keep them for myself, sorry. However, I did include one picture of a spot I surfed that was really fun.

The trip was an awesome break from the norm. I lived out of my van for much of the trip and even got some carve time in at a sick skate park. It’s been great to be home for a few days but I’m off again hunting for quality big waves. I’ll be in Peru, Chile and then Fiji where I’ll be a boatman for Tavarua once again. I’ll send more pics from the road.
