Ty On Tavarua

Dear Matuse Family,
Cloud Break was a “no go” for four days due to winds as Cyclone Tomas passed to our east. But the short interval swell had Restaurants breaking the whole trip. Cloud Break came back to life once it cleaned up (Wed – Sat).
Tomas, a category 4 threatened to hit us – but Ernie, my son Bill, Dr. Yiannis Venieri and I opted to not evacuate on Sunday with the other guests. We were alone on the island with the photographer, Scott Winer, a small crew of Fijians and the island management staff. To put this in perspective, Hurricane Katrina was a category 3. It was a bit sketchy as you can see in the satellite images.
On day one, I watched Pat break his board and return to the peak with 2/3 of a board and continue to surf. He was ripping. The other guests arrived back on the island on Wednesday and things returned to “normal”.
Ty
